The Kano State Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Muhammad Nadu Yahaya has disclosed that the State government plans to construct 20,000 houses in conjunction with the Federal Mortgage Bank and other private development partners.
The plan which is to be executed in three new cities, Umarawa [Kwankwasiyya City], Western Bye-Pass Estate and Amana City was initiated by the present administration to provide befitting houses in the State.
Yahaya, who took journalists round some of the proposed sites, said the houses when completed will be sold to civil servants in the state.
He said that the development partners would invest more than N12 billion in the housing projects, while the state government would provide the land as its interest in the project was to secure job opportunities for the populace in the state.
The commissioner said that all the three projects would soon begin in full swing and added that the housing scheme would be one of the gigantic projects to be embarked upon by the Kwankwaso? administration.
On the part of the state government, the commissioner said, it would spend close to N7billion for the provision of various infrastructure at the layouts in Umarawa, Tumfafi and Gurjiya, and said that the proposed residential plots would be allocated to interested individuals in the state.
He said roads, water, bridges, hospitals, schools and many other essential amenities would be provided in the proposed sites.
