The Senate has restated its determination to reject any discussion that posed threat to the unity of Nigeria as one indivisible nation.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, reaffirmed the pledge while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
Abaribe said every Nigerian wishing to proffer suggestions on ways to move the country forward should send such proposals through the National Assembly.
He noted that the Senate was open to discussion on all issues that were in the best interest of Nigeria.
“We are already elected to represent all persons and citizens of Nigeria. We are not against any group meeting to discuss issues concerning Nigeria.
“If you want anything changed, all you need to do is to bring your suggestion through any of your representative in the National Assembly.
“If we have anything that we will say is off limit, it is the unity of Nigeria. That is non-negotiable,” Abaribe declared.
The Senate spokesman also cleared the air on the plans to purchase new vehicles for chairmen of Senate standing committees.
He said that it was the responsibility of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) to provide lawmakers with the tools to facilitate their work as representatives of the people.
“We require necessary tools to make our work efficient and it is the responsibility of the National Assembly Service Commission to provide these tools.
As I speak to you, no Senator has taken delivery of any of the jeeps,” he added.
Abaribe also said that the Senate was working assiduously to ensure passage of the 2012 Appropriation Bill before proceeding on its forthcoming retreat in March.
