Bad governance and insecurity is forcing some companies to relocate from the northern part of the country thereby causing poverty in the region, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Directors, Akin Ajayi has said.
Ajayi who stated this in Kaduna at a business sensitization Seminar, added that the collapse of industries in the northern part of Nigeria had brought the region to a standstill more than the Boko Haram crises.
“One of the bigger problems we are having is that, we are here in Kaduna where there were strong striving textile industries and through smuggling, poor foreign policy choices, we allowed our own industries to die and import to take over.
“That was a big blow to the economy of Kaduna. The closure of the industries is vicious than the current crises in the area. What did the government and the membership organization here do? We’ve not seen anything because they have not concentrated enough on the need to revive the industries. So, part of what we are doing is for business men and women to look at ways in which they can improve on their businesses, “he said.
Also speaking on the issue of the unrest in the northern part of the country that has brought several businesses to a standstill, Ajayi said that government have not done anything to take care of the businesses. “Is there a common voice from government concerning the impact of security on businesses?
