Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State has warned contractors handling projects in the state against execution of shoddy jobs just as he insisted that payment would be based on performance.
Shema who gave the warning yesterday, at the signing of 2012 budget, said government would intensify the monitoring of on-going projects? so as to ensure that contracts awarded were done in line with specifications.
The governor’s warning is coming on the heels of widespread allegations of shoddy jobs by some contractors handling the construction of classrooms at the local government areas.
“I have directed that contractors handling the building of classrooms to be paid soon and the payment are to be done based on performance” he said adding “anybody who has done anything that is owed by government will be paid as at when due.”
While signing the 2012 budget of one hundred and thirteen billion, nine hundred and fifty six million (N113.956bn) as passed by the state house of assembly, Shema said priority would be accorded to issues of security, unemployment and agriculture.
