HOCSF Says To Ensure Civil Servants Declare Assets

The Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, has pledged to ensure that federal civil servants declared their assets in compliance with the Code of Conduct Act.

This was contained in a statement quoting Alhaji Isa Sali, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF) who made the pledge when the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr Sam Saba, and commissioners in the bureau visited his office

The statement was signed by Mr Tope Ajakaiye, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation on Wednesday in Abuja.

?Sali said that corruption was a systemic problem that should not be condoned in the public service and that its eradication should be by the collective efforts of all those in positions of leadership in the country.

He informed the delegation that during his tenure, efforts would be made to address the issues of work ethics and attitudinal change among civil servants.

“I have just this week flagged-off a one-week training programme on Work Ethics and Attitudinal Change, involving 1,100 officers from various Ministries Department and Agencies.

“The overall aim of the training is to equip participants with the relevant knowledge, skills and techniques for improving ethical standards and a positive work culture in the public service,” he said.

?Saba expressed regret that many civil servants did not comply with the provision of the Code of Conduct Act on declaration of assets.

He urged permanent secretaries to take it as their responsibility to ensure compliance by officers serving under them.

Similarly, Prof. Sam Ale, the Director-General of the National Mathematical Centre, requested the participation of civil servants in the specialised courses offered by the centre.

Ale made the request when he visited the HOCSF to brief him on the activities of the centre and the declaration of Year 2012 as Nigeria’s Mathematical Year.

Responding, Sali lauded the achievements of the centre and urged it to work hard to become a world-class centre of excellence for research and training in the mathematical sciences and to also make it a centre capable of promoting the development and socio-economic impact of mathematical sciences in Nigeria.
