The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Niger State Governor who doubles as the Chairman Northern Governors Forum (NGF) Dr. Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu to resign his position as NGF Chairman over his alleged failure to safeguard one the legacies of late Sadauna of Sokoto, Sir Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, particularly the New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN)??
The cumulative failures of the Federal Government and the 19 Northern Governors have also been identified as factors that has plunged the NNN? into its current financial crunch that has resulted to owing workers 10 months salary and other financial obligations capable of making the company to compete favourably with other media houses in Nigeria
This was contained in a tripartite press statement jointly signed by the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kaduna State Chapter, Comrade Adamu Ango, Chairman and Secretary of Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Kaduna State Chapter Comrade Yusuf Idris and Dominic Uzu respectively as well as the Vice President National Union of Printing, Publishing and Papers Production Workers (NUPPPPROWN) North-West Zonal Council, Comrade Adamu Dauda.
The NLC Chairman who read the statement, lamented further that, due to utter lack of commitment on the part of the owner-governors to sincerely re position the company, some members of the Northern Governors Forum have umpteenth time failed to redeem pledges made in form of life-line to the NNN each time the forum gather for periodic meetings.
