The Police Service Commission (PSC), has approved the dismissal of Commissioner of Police, Zakari Biu, over his role in the escape from police custody of a Boko Haram suspect, Kabiru Sokoto.
A statement by the commission's Chief Information Officer, Mr Ferdinand Ekpe on Wednesday said the dismissal takes effect from Feb. 22.
The statement said the dismissal was ratified at the commission's plenary session on Wednesday.
“The Police Service Commission, after due consideration of the role played by Commissioner of Police, Hassan Zakari Biu, in the escape of the Boko Haram suspect, Kabiru Sokoto, today 22nd Feb., 2012 approved the dismissal of Mr. Hassan Zakari Biu? from the Nigeria Police Force with effect from Feb. 22, 2012.''
It said that the commission had also ratified the elevation of seven Assistant Inspectors’ General of Police (AIGs) to Deputy Inspectors’ General.
Those promoted are Suleiman Fakai, Atiku Kafur, Emmanuel Udeoji, Haruna John, Peter Gana, Marvel Akpoyibo and Abdurahaman? Akano.
It further stated that 13 Commissioners of Police had been moved to the positions of Assistant Inspectors’ General.
The new AIGs include Solomon Olusegun, Michael Zuokumor, Orubebe Ebikeme, Philemon Leha, Jonathan Johnson and Dan’azumi Doma.
Others are Joseph Ibi, Muktari Ibrahim, Suleiman Abba, Mamman Tsafe, Saliu Hashimu, Solomon Arase and David Omojola.
Also promoted is the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Lamorde, who becomes a Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The Chairman of the commission, Mr Parry Osayande, charged the police to rise up to the current security challenges facing the nation, warning to “wield the big stick’’ against anyone found wanting. (NAN)
