The Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for yesterday’s deadly attacks at the popular Baga market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, “to avenge” last Thursday’s arrest of one of its member by some traders.
Speaking to journalists in a telephone conference in Maiduguri, yesterday, spokesman for the group, Abul Qaqa, said the coordinated attacks followed the “insincerity” demonstrated by the traders who connived with security operatives to apprehend its member.??
According to Qaqa, the group has no regret launching the attacks because “we succeeded in eliminating all those that contributed to the arrest of our member and whoever plans to do same, should prepare to pay the price.”
He further said: “People should not accuse us of killing anyone who was involved in this incident because we have severally warned the public to desist from conspiring with security agents to thwart our course, as those found wanting will be blacklisted as enemies of Islam and will definitely face the harsh treatment we have been meting out to our targets.”
