The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja,? Sen. Bala Mohammed has scrapped the environmental sanitation exercise which was observed monthly in the metropolis.
The monthly sanitation exercise which was flagged off on May 30, 2009 by the then FCT Minister, Sen. Adamu Aliero was borne out of the need to make the city clean.
In a chat with journalists yesterday in Abuja, the Head of Information and Outreach programme, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Mr. Joe Ukairo said the monthly environmental exercise was discontinued because it did not yield the expected result.
Ukairo said, “We discovered that rather than come out and take active part in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, residents stayed indoors and indulged themselves with their gadgets while waiting for 10am.”
He said? the administration had decided to make sanitation a daily affair whereby sanitary inspectors? will go round the city and inspect residents without notice.
