Bako Haram operatives yesterday stormed a mosque in Sheka Quarters? in Kumbotso Local Governemnt Area of Kano State and killed five persons.
The attack came barely 24 hours after gunmen killed four persons in the same state on Thursday.
According to an eyewitness, the attack was carried out in a bid to get rid of? the leader of a? vigilance group in the area, Alhaji Sule Kwaran, whom they suspect had been leaking information about the sect to the security agencies.
But in their quest to eliminate the man, the gunmen, who were on top of motorcycles, opened fire and ended up killing five persons on the spot.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Mr. Magaji Majia, confirmed the attack and said that investigation into the incident had begun.
Meanwhile, many persons were feared dead when more than 20 bombs planted by persons suspected to be Boko Haram members, went off at the New Army Division and Gombe Police Station yesterday. The Army Division was opened by former GOC, Gen. Adamu Marwa.
Sporadic gunshots also erupted in the state capital forcing many frightened residents to run for safety.
Our correspondent reported that the guns boomed for over three hours but an accurate casualty figure was not given as at press time.
Permanent Secretary Press affairs Adamu Musa Kumo said Governor Dankwambo promised to protect the lives and property of Gombe people thus imposing a 24-hour curfew.
