Ahead of Wednesday’s all important 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and their Rwandan counterparts in Kigali, Eagles’ goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu has warned the foreign based professionals invited for the match not to expect automatic shirts.
Speaking to reporters after a training session in Abuja, the former Super Eagles shot stopper said all the 11foreign-based players invited including the skipper of the team, Joseph Yobo and in-form Blackburn of England goal-poacher, Yakubu Aiyegbeni must fight for shirts.
He added that the home-based players in camp have proved themselves beyond any doubt with their recent performance against the Liberia national team in an international friendly match, which they won 2-0.
“The home-based players have done well in their recent matches for the Eagles and only fit players will be considered for the Rwanda match,” he said.
Shorunmu, who was impressed with the commitment of the home-based Eagles in camp, urged the players not to relent in their effort throughout their stay in camp.
The former Eagles goalie is however optimistic that Nigeria will beat Rwanda in the two legged encounter to qualify for the next round of the qualifiers.?
