Igbo traders in Abuja will today close their shops in honour of their late leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the chairman, Abuja local organising committee for Ojukwu’s burial, Barr. Nwabueze Obi said Igbo traders in the FCT are? expected to close their shops in honour of the late icon.
He said, “We call on brothers to adhere strictly to this resolution that markets should be closed. We want to appeal to our brothers and sisters who will go to the market on Saturday, that if they? do not see their usual sales person they should bear with us because we are mourning a man who has rendered selfless service to Ndi-Igbo”
He said the decision was taken at a meeting between Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo and market traders association.
He said several events have been lined up in the FCT for the burial of the late Igbo leader with a traditional mourning procession by 9am on Saturday (today) where Igbos and friends of Ndi-Igbo in the FCT will troop out en masse and move to strategic locations in the FCT
He said there will also be a rally from 12pm to be attended by eminent Nigerians from all walks of life including the executive, legislators and judiciary.
The first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan will be the special guest of honor, while speaker Aminu Tambuwal and deputy senate president will be in attendance.
He also said there will be a reception for the late Ikemba at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport where Nigerians will pay their last respect to the late icon on monday.
