Maj. Gen. Oluwaseun Oshinowo, the out-gone Commander, Military Special Task Force (STF) maintaining security in Plateau, says the JTF has restored peace and security in the state.
Oshinowo, who was speaking to journalists after handing over to his successor, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Ibrahim, said that his tenure had witnessed a return to peace in the hitherto violent state.
He described his five months stay in the state as tough but fruitful.
“My experience in Plateau as the STF Commander has been challenging and fulfilling.
“When I was coming to Plateau, I never knew where I was going to start from but thank God today, Plateau is having a semblance of peace that has eluded us for a very long time.”
Oshinowo said the secret behind the success lies behind his ability to be “open, fair and to treat everybody equally irrespective of any affiliation''.
“You have to build confidence in the people and that was exactly what I did; reach out to people, getting to know what their problems are and trying to solve the problems where possible.
“Where not possible, we look together and see how we can move forward. The only thing I request from the Plateau people is to make sure that they sustain the tempo so that lasting peace returns to the state.”
Oshinowo commended the STF personnel for their efforts and urged them to keep up the good work.
“They have done well, they are a bunch of good soldiers and we can take them anywhere in the world.''
The ex-commander had earlier visited the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Gyang Buba, to introduce his successor.
He commended the royal father for his support to the JTF towards peace-building in the state.
Responding, Buba attributed the success recorded by the commander to his fairness and openness, adding: “he did not come with any hidden agenda’’.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oshinowo was posted to the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu as the GOC. (NAN)
