Sen. Liyel Imoke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday emerged winner of Saturday’s governorship poll in Cross River, with 451,544 votes to beat 11 other contestants.
Imoke, the immediate past governor of the state, got an overwhelming majority votes to defeat the other candidates, including his closest rival, Mr Usani Usani of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) ,who came a distant second with 31,026 votes.
Mr Patrick Okomiso of the All Nigeria’s Peoples Party (ANPP) came third with 2,235 votes, while? Mrs Ima Nsa-Adegoke of the? Labour Party came fourth with 1,922 votes.
While declaring Imoke the winner,? Prof.? James Epoke, the INEC Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, said: “Imoke having satisfied the requirements of the law and having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.’’
He said Imoke scored more than 25 per cent of the total votes cast in all the 18 local government areas where the election held.
