Adamawa Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has suspended indefinitely the March 31 local government elections in the state.
A statement by the chairman of the commission, Alhaji Zailani Ahmed, said the development was due to circumstances beyond its control.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances and consequent loss of planning time vis-a-vis our preparations, the commission time table leading to elections on 31st March, 2012 is no longer feasible.
“The commission will in due course announce a new date for the local government elections in the state. Whenever this is done, a revised time table will be issued,” the statement said.
The statement, noted, that the 90 days notice of election given to political parties was still in force.
The latest shift was the second since the expiration of the two and half year tenure of elected local government chairmen in June last year.
Head of Service in the 21 local government areas of the state are now responsible for overseeing the activities of the councils.?
