The Nigerian Medical Association in Anambra has suspended its 13-month old strike following an agreement with the state government
The Chairman of the association in Anambra, Dr Emmanuel Ekwesianya, said in Awka on Monday that the agreement was arrived at on Monday in the state capital.
Ekwesianya said that having considered the various pleas of well-meaning people of the state, the association decided not to further subject the people of the state to suffering.
He said the members of the association had decided to accept the 50 per cent of the Consolidated Salary Structure pending the completion of work of the technical committee setup by the state government to increase the salary.
The state government, he said, had signed an agreement with the union to ensure the regularisation of the doctors’ salary.
Ekwesianya, however, warned that members of the union would be compelled to resume the strike if the government failed to abide by the terms of the agreement.
The chairman directed all members of the association to return to work on Tuesday.
