There is a sharp disagreement between the Rivers State Government and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) over the ban on sale of petrol in jerry-cans in all the filling stations in the state.
While the state government said the ban of sale in jerry cans would help in checking the activities of black marketers in the state, the ACN insisted that the ban was unwarranted as it infringes on the right of generator users who rely on jerry-cans to purchase petrol to fuel their generators.
Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Seminatari said the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources have been mandated to close down any filling station that fails to comply.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Hon. Okey Amadi,? said, his Ministry had already taken proactive steps to ensure that? defaulting marketers are apprehended.
