Dr Felix Igwe, the Chairman of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Branch of ASUU, has advised the Rivers Government to follow due process in selecting a Vice Chancellor for the university.
Igwe said on Thursday in Port Harcourt that the union would adopt the strike option if the government refused to obey the guidelines on the appointment of a vice chancellor for the university.
According to him, the union notes with dismay the secret political moves to again truncate the due process already put in place by the university's governing council in selecting a new vice chancellor.
“The process of selecting a new VC is done every four years at the expiration of an incumbent's tenure.
“Due process as enshrined in the university's law and practised in other government-owned universities nationwide should be applied in selecting a VC in this institution.
Igwe said that the move to disrupt the process would lead to industrial disharmony in the institution.
The don urged the State Government to implement the education committee's recommendation to lift the institution to greater height.?
