The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given an order for the arrest of more than 3,125 motorists for various traffic offences in the city within two months.?
A statement issued in Abuja on Monday said the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed, gave the order while appraising some measures put in place by his administration to tackle traffic problems in Abuja.
The statement signed by Mr Muhammad Sule, the Chief Press Secretary to the minister, said the minister reiterated that the measure had become necessary to ensure discipline among motorists.
“Henceforth, road users who are not disciplined should brace up to face hard times as the security agents, especially the officers of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, have been instructed to intensify efforts in tackling the menace.
“The FCTA, during the period under consideration, confiscated 503 commercial motorcycles in the city,’’ it quoted the minister as saying.
It said the minister warned all operators of commercial motorcycles to desist from operating in the Federal Capital City.
The statement said that 17 road accidents were recorded by the directorate during the period, assuring the residents that subsequent months would witness drastic reduction in road accidents.
According to it, the minister advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations.
