The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday? condemned? plans to lay off about 28,000 workers from next year as a way of cutting down? on recurrent expenditure? and has therefore vowed to resist the move.
Deputy President of NLC, Comrade Kiri Mohammed who spoke with LEADERSHIP on telephone said the organized labour had no agreement with the Federal Government on its intention but insisted that such an action by government was unacceptable.
Comrade Kiri Mohammed who is also the National President, of Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) however said Government should know that any reform that was anti people would be rejected by the working people of Nigeria.
He said workers are important partners in the sustenance and progress of every establishment therefore should? be seen as partners instead of regarding them as the problem.
“We will resist any move by the Government to lay off workers without due process in the guise of any reform. We have said time without number that we will not tolerate any reform that has no human face and any responsible government should know that any plan now that are anti-people will trigger social unrest,” he warned.
However an impeccable source in the Presidency said there were no such plans to sack workers.
