The Joint Military Task Force code named Operation Pulo Shield has declared missing, corpses of the Commander of the Brass Unit and three others shot dead by suspected oil bunkers along the Brass-Ogbia waterways of Bayelsa State.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP on telephone, the Media Coordinator of the JTF, Timothy Anthinga confirmed the authorities' decision to engage Local and Naval divers to search for the corpse of the officers killed in the Thursday Morning attack.
According to Anthinga,”the JTF has declared missing the four personnel reportedly attacked by the gunmen missing and have engaged local divers to search for their corpses.” “We have deployed our men in search of criminals that carried out the attack.”
The local divers, sources told LEADERSHIP, have found the corpse of another policeman killed in a similar attack.
On Thursday, the corpses of the other policemen were recovered.
A Nembe community leader and member of the Oil and Gas Committee (names withheld) disclosed that the attackers are members of the illegal oil bunkering syndicate operating in the area.
He said that the officers have been involved in a vigorous campaign against oil bunkering activity in the Nembe and Southern Ijaw Local Government areas of the State.
