Pick-pockets had a field day yesterday during the interment of the ex Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, in his country home, Umudim Nnewi, Anambra State,? as they dispossessed people of their belongings.
One of the? victims who spoke to our correspondent said he lost over N3,000 during the burial.
“ I lost over N3,000 to the robbers, while I was struggling to enter Ojukwu's house. I did not notice that the? pick-pockets have stolen my money until when I wanted to buy something outside
“ It is unfortunate that some people have the courage to steal in this kind of burial. Ojukwu was a great man who sacrificed a lot to us, why should somebody steal at his burial?” The victim who identified himself as Chinonso? stated.
Apart from Chinonso, it was gathered that the? pick-pockets also dispossessed other sympathizers who trooped to Ojukwu's house to pay their final respects.
“ The pick pockets pretend to be Ojukwu,s admirers but whenever the soldiers push us, they would collect money from peoples' pockets” he said.
In a similar vein, traders from different parts of the country made huge profits? from the sales of Ojukwu,s speeches while he was Biafran Head of State.
