When Miss Agnes Olasehinde took off from her home and resumed at her duty post as one of the cashiers at First Bank Plc, Alagbaka, Akure on Friday, February 24, 2012, little did she know? about the ugly package the day had in store? for her.
Being the last working day of the week, the banker had dressed in nice native Ankara dress and she was in high spirit while attending to one customer to the other throughout the morning hours of the ever busy bank.?
She and her colleagues were busy doing what they know how to do best, that is, rendering services to the customers that were trooping in and out of the banking hall until around noon, precisely 12.30pm when a young woman entered the banking hall with a polythene bag.?
The woman who passed through the security door under the guise of coming to transact business in the bank, turned to be the albatross of Agnes as she walked straight to her counter and started raining all sorts of abuses on her, accusing her of snatching her husband.?
The woman, who was later identified as Babatunde Folasade kept on with this abusive words and when it was becoming unbearable for the cashier, her colleagues stood up to caution the woman and security guards were already approaching the counter to intervene but they were all relaxed when they saw her unwrapping the polythene bag in her hand, thinking that she was putting the grievances behind her and ready to deposit her money.??
But instead of depositing money as is usually the case, Folasade decided to deposit faeces on the body of Agnes who was said to be her rival right there in the banking hall.
The 28 year-old Folasade poured the entire content of the packaged feaces inside the polythene bag on her rival and part of it splashing on the counter and money in the cubicle of the victim.
A source in the bank when the incident occurred? expressed surprise at the way Folasade, who came to Akure from Owo town, carried out her plan without anybody suspecting her.
The source said, “we were taken by surprise at the way she went straight to the cashier, Miss Olasehinde, and accused her of snatching her husband in the presence of other bank workers and customers in the banking hall.
“More of a shock was the commando way she immediately opened the polythene bag and before the security guards could stop her, poured the entire content with the offensive odour on Olasehinde who was attending to customers”.
The source said Olaseinde was decked in her beautiful native attire, being the last working day of the week. Immediately the action was carried out, commotion became inevitable in the bank as everybody inside the hall went towards the electronically controlled door in order to escape from the disgusting odour which had taken over the entire hall.
Folasade was said to have ignored the odour that was oozing out of the feaces and dealt terrible blows on Olaseinde in the presence of other bank officials in the bank before she could be rescued by the security guards.
Folasade was subsequently arrested on the orders of the senior officials of the bank, while the cleaners took Olasehinde to the toilet and cleaned her up.
It was also learnt that the management arranged a vehicle which took Olasehinde home so that she could clean herself? more properly and change her clothes.
Folasade was however arraigned at the Magistrate Court in Akure on Tuesday.
The woman who was arraigned on charge sheet no MAK/109c/2012 was brought on a two -count charge of conducting herself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace and assault.
In the celebrated case which attracted members of the public to the court premises, Folasade was accused to have on February 24, 2012, entered the banking hall of First Bank Alagbaka branch in Akure at about 12.30pm and conducted herself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by bringing a can containing feaces into the business environment and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 249 (d) of the criminal code cap 37 vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.?
Count two of the charge read by the court clerk indicated that the accused unlawfully assaulted one Agnes Olaseinde by pouring feaces on her body and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 351 of the criminal code Cap 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.?
After the charge had been read to the accused, she pleaded not guilty but agreed that the case be tried at the magistrate court.
Police Prosecutor, Ayodele Atandeyi informed the court of his readiness to prosecute the matter and sought for a short adjournment date in order for him to bring his witnesses to court during the hearing of the matter.
On his part, the counsel to accused person, Barrister Charles Titiloye agreed with the adjournment sought by the prosecutor but applied that the court should grant Folasade bail on liberal terms since the offence she committed was a bailable one.
The counsel also told the court that the matter was being resolved by the families of the accused and the victim since it is a domestic affair.?
Titiloye was optimistic that the matter would be resolved before the next date they would appear in court, appealing to the magistrate that it was just the play out of an unfortunate misunderstanding between the accused and the bank staff which was entirely on a man and therefore pleaded that Folasade be granted bail by the court.
The prosecutor did not object to the bail application made by the defense counsel and the Magistrate, Rabi Abdulwahab granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.?
The magistrate also ordered that the accused must deposit her international passport if any in the court and thereby adjourned the matter till March 27, 2012 for hearing.
Some elders who spoke on the incident in Akure, advised Olasehinde to seek spiritual assistance if she does not want to end up as a leper.?
A retired civil servant, Niyi Adelu told Leadership Sunday that the action of Folasade is a taboo in Yorubaland, pointing out that anybody that is given such treatment like Agnes must seek for spiritual cleansing without delay in order for her not to be having bad luck throughout her days or end up as a leper.
He advised the parents of Agnes Olasehinde to shift their attention from prosecuting Folasade and concentrate on taking care of their daughter whose future he said is at stake at the moment.
