A PDP chieftain in Adamawa, Dr Umar Ardo, has led a protest to the INEC office in Yola over the conduct of Saturday’s ward congresses in the state.
Ardo led a group of supporters under the banner of “Adamawa key Stakeholders” to the INEC office where he presented a petition.
He alleged that the PDP ward congresses in Adamawa were not conducted in accordance with the law.
Ardo said that the stakeholders tried in vain to redress the issue at the party level and had to present the matter to INEC, an independent body, empowered constitutionally to monitor all elections.
“We are here to formally register our complaint to INEC and urge it to consider our complaint and if found true to reject the so called results of Saturday’s ward congresses.
“These results cannot be an electoral college for the purpose of electing next Saturday’s local governments’ executives. Once the foundation is faulty no enduring structure can be built on it.”
Ardo was the only aspirant that contested with Gov. Murtala Nyako in the last party governorship primaries in the state.
A case challenging the conduct of the primaries is still in court.
Receiving the petition, the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Kassim Gaidam, commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct and for following due process in lodging their complaint.
“I want to commend you for your peaceful and orderly conduct in presenting your complaint.”
Kassim promised to forward the complaint to INEC in Abuja for consideration.
