The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board? has promoted 407 teachers in Mubi South Local Government, the council’s Education Secretary, Alhaji Salihu Umar, said in Mubi on Wednesday.
The board also distributed 28 motorcycles to supervisors and head teachers in 17 primary schools to promote punctuality and enhance monitoring in the area, Umar .told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that teachers in 88 primary and post-basic schools benefited from the promotion in the last two years.
He said that more than 395 teachers were trained under the board's teacher development initiative in the last three years.
The secretary said, the training was provided in collaboration with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) office, National
Teachers Institute and College of Education, Yola.
“The training programme focuses on core subjects, including Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, Home Economics as well as Physical and Health Education (PHE).
“The aim is to enhance teachers’ capacity and expose them to modern teaching methods,” Umar said.
He said that the board was also working in partnership with the MDGs and UNICEF to enhance water and sanitation services in schools.
According to him, the board has begun the distribution of free uniforms to 20,594 pupils in the 65 primary schools in the area.
“This is to instill discipline, promote personal hygiene habit in the pupils and expand the scope of school enrolment,” Umar said.
He said that 3,102 library text books, furniture and other instruction material were also distributed to the schools.
The secretary urged parents and teachers to ensure proper use of the uniforms by pupils. (NAN)
