The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, has faulted the deportation of 125 Nigerians from South Africa on the excuse of possessing questionable yellow fever vaccine certificate.
The CPC position was contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rotimi Fashakin, and made available to LEADERSHIP.
CPC accused the South African authority of intentionally meting out cruel and inhuman treatments to Nigerians, saying that South Africa has no respect for Nigerian citizens living in their country and therefore urged the Federal Government? not to handle the matter with kid gloves.
“It is our view that this is an ostensible reason and not the underlying motive for this cruel action by the South African authority.
With the probability of error tilting more on the negligence of the South African embassy staff and not the Nigerians validly issued visa, the South African authority could have saved the day by offering inoculation service for a fee; the humiliating treatment of the Nigerians was odious and therefore, unacceptable,” he said.
The party decried the foreign policy thrust of the Nigerian state in recent times as shambolic and ramshackle, attributing it to lack of professionalism and competence in the preponderance of Ambassadorial positions.
“The preponderance of Ambassadorial positions had, largely, been used for obsequious partisan patronage with no regard for professionalism and competence.
The subsisting foreign policy of the country, anchored on Africa as its centre piece, needs to be appraised. Nigeria and Nigerians’ interests ought to be the centre piece of the Nation’s foreign policy thrust.
