The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down no fewer than 10 sachet water manufacturing factories in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, and its environs for contravening the laid-down regulations of the agency.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt after the operation, NAFDAC coordinator in the state, Pharmacist Bolakale Ayinde, said the exercise was aimed at checking the activities of unregistered and fake sachet water producers in the state.
Ayinde stated the officials of the agency discovered that some sachet water producers in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state were operating under very unhygienic conditions.
He further stated that some sachet water producers in the area did not give any regard to the good manufacturing practice (GMP) of the agency while others were operating with fake NAFDAC number on their sachet water, even when they did not have the agency’s licence.
