The Federal Government has beamed its search light on contractors handling power transmission and distribution projects? across the country with a directive that any them who is unable to meet 50 per cent completion of his contract by June, 2012 wull have his contract terminated.
Vice-President Namadi Sambo gave the order yesterday during the 21st Board Meeting of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in Abuja. He said, “any company which could not reach fifty percent completion by June its contract would be terminated and given to another company that can deliver on the project”.
Sambo, who is the chairman of the board told the supervising consultants and NDPHC Management to ensure that projects? not 50% delivered by June must be terminated and re-assigned to a performing contractor.
He also directed the management of the NDPHC to make a list of delinquent contractors and consultants and that any of them that could not complete its project by the end of the year would be sanctioned.
Addressing the issue of low gas supply, the board asked the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr. Austin Onivon, and the Managing Director, National Gas Company of Nigeria, to work with Chevron and all other oil companies to ensure availability of adequate gas.
The board also called for a meeting of all governors of South-South zone including governors of Imo and Abia states and other stakeholders to discuss issues bothering on problems associating with right of way, vandalism and security need for projects timely delivery.?
Sambo also warned that the Board would no longer approve any new projects, saying that? there? was the need to concentrate on the urgent delivery of existing contracts.
