Mysterious Ear Problem Dashes Livinus’ Hope

Mr Anyatang Livinus, like every young person in his childhood, was full of hopes and aspirations of making success out of life.? His? ideal dream was to become a medical doctor.

The? young? intelligent? Livinus? nursed? his? aspirations until in 2003 when he was hit by a strange illness that rendered him? chronically deaf. Despite his chronic deafness, he exhibits an uncommon intelligence? in chats? and even in writings.

Communicating with Livinus? wasn’t easy due to? his hearing inadequacies, but we got along by writing out questions while he answered verbally. He reads intelligently? and speaks Queen’s English? fluently? but does not? hear responses except it is done through writing .

His? story is quite? pathetic but the National Hospital? in? collaboration with a German hospital? has raised the hope that a possible Cochlear implant operation can? fully restore Livinus' hearing .

The National Hospital is requesting? about?? Euro 50,000, apprx.?? (N10,.7million -) to effect the operation. Livinus? requires the help and assistance of good spirited Nigerians to regain his hearing .? He also sought? to? use this medium to? reach out to members of Senate and? House of Representatives from Cross River State and even those from other states to help him out .

Narrating how the? loss of his hearing started ,Livinus? stated that: “It all started? in 2003, after? finishing? from? the Federal School of Art and Science, Lagos, I came? down to my village ,? Obudu? LGA , in Cross River State to? get money and? prepare? for my University education . My mind was to study? medicine? and I had all the requirements? needed for admission .

One afternoon ,? I heard a thunderous noise inside? my ears drum, after then, I could not hear any further, I could only read and write when I want to communicate with people,” He lamented .

On the efforts he? has made to regain his hearing , the seemingly frustrated? young man said his peasant? parents have sold all the lands and other properties in a bid to help him out but all to no avail. “ My parents have taken me to several hospitals , Doctors sometime? said my situation is beyond? medicals, we have been to traditionalists and to all kinds of mosques and churches.? My father died while still trying to seek for remedy for my problem and my mother is now bedridden.

“It was a good Samaritan that took me to the National Hospital and paid? for proper diagnosis, that was where the Medical Director , Prof. B B? Shehu? said with Cochlear Implant, my hearing will return to normal. I want Nigerians to help me get back my hearing .? I am still? nursing the? ambition of becoming a medical doctor . Livinus? wept profusely while narrating? his ordeal to SUNDAY LEADERSHIP.

He,? however, appealed? to members of the National Assembly from Cross River state as well as those from other state, including well meaning Nigerians? who may wish to help him to reach the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, Abuja , Prof. B Shehu? for? confirmation,??
