Four persons including a commercial sex worker were Monday shot dead in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, following renewed clash between two rival cult groups based in the Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Council area of the State.
The renewed clash, which occurred between 5pm and 8.30pm along the Azikoro and the D.S.P Alameiseigha way (popularly known as Hospital road), causing a stampeded and hurried closure of most business outlets in the area.
Meanwhile, the?Bayelsa State Police Command has?confirmed that two persons died when two rival cult groups clashed in Yenagoa on Sunday night.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that?at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, an undergraduate of the Bayelsa Government- owned university was allegedly shot dead by suspected cultists along Azikoro Road at?Ekeki, a suburb of Yenagoa.
It was learnt?that one of the cultists, who sustained bullet wound, was rushed to a hospital along D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha Way by the hospital junction.
A source told NAN that on hearing that one of the victims was receiving treatment at the?hospital, his assailants fearing that he might reveal their identities stormed the hospital but could not gain access as the victim?was said?to have been relocated to another hospital.
Angered by this development, the suspected cultists were said to have shot sporadically near a snooker board, four on the spot while?onlookers ran?for their?lives in different directions.
The?latest incident brings to?three, the number of deaths recorded in cult related clashes in Yenagoa?on Sunday.
Contacted, the?Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa, Mr Eguaveon Emokpai (ASP), confirmed that two persons (male and female) were shot dead at the hospital junction.
Emokpai told NAN that six persons had?been arrested in connection with the incident?and that they were?helping the police in?investigations. (NAN)
