The Ministry of Defence and the arms of the military in the country may soon be linked up with teleconferencing facilities in order to hasten intelligence gathering and security management.
The Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Haliru Mohammed, disclosed this yesterday when he received the Managing Director (MD) of Galaxy Backbone Plc, Mr. Gerald Ilukwe in his office. The MD was invited to deliberate on the special ICT conference on defence and military activities holding on Thursday this week.
Ilukwe also used the opportunity to solicit the minister’s approval to integrate the defence ministry and the services with new state-of-the-art video conferencing as a means of enhancing military activities and national economy.
?Mohammed who welcomed the innovation said that the new ICT technology has become very necessary for his ministry because of the amount of space and time lost each time there was a meeting between him and the service chiefs.
The Minister also disclosed that very soon all civilian and military officers at the level of director would be hooked with internet protocol voice over so that the cost of telephony within the ministry and the services could be reduced substantially.
