President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he will not turn any public information organ into uncritical mouthpiece of the government.
The president who was represented by Vice-President Mohammed Namadi Sambo made this remark in Abuja, yesterday, while inaugurating the ultra-modern transmitting station of the voice of Nigeria (VON).
The president said that government would not monopolise the public information outfit but would empower them to be sufficient in service delivery.
He then charged VON to fashion out more programme that would make it a station of choice to Africa and the rest of the world.
The President said, “Nigeria as a leader in Africa needs a voice to reach out to the world, which brought about VON. VON should initiate programmes that will make it a choice to the rest of the world and will also help to attract investors in Nigeria”
He expressed the belief that initiating more appealing programmes would not only project it as one of the best in the world, but attract more audience to the station.
The president then pledged to the immediately embark on the construction of the second phase of the transmitting station to avoid so as not to over burden the existing one.
