Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN) yesterday attributed the delay for the review of the 1999 Constitution on the non-provision of funds for it in the 2011 budget.
Ndoma-Egba made the clarification when national officers of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) led by its President, Mr. Joseph Daoudu (SAN) visited his office at the National Assembly.
He also reiterated the fact that “the legislature was not opposed to national dialogue, but rather is opposed to it when sovereignty becomes the issue.”
He however assured that the constitutional review would commence immediately after the passage of the budget, adding that the appropriations which was missed in the 2011 appropriation would be rectified in 2012 budget.
Meanwhile, the Senate was? virtually split yesterday over a Bill seeking to curb labour strikes in Nigeria.
The Bill, if passed, would most certainly cripple organised labour since members of all affiliated unions would henceforth be required to vote before embarking on any strike.
The bill entitled, “A Bill for an Act to further amend the Trade Unions Act, 2004 as amended 2005,’ was sponsored by Heinken Lokpobiri (PDP, Bayelsa).
