President Goodluck Jonathan has called for a free and fair election in the forthcoming gubernatorial re-run in Kebbi? on March 31, to demonstrate the growth of democracy in the country.
Jonathan made the call on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi when he inaugurated the campaign for re-election of former Gov. Saidu Dakingari of the PDP.
Receiving some members of CPC and ACN into the PDP, the President said the development was a major victory for all and a significant contribution to the growth of democracy.
“The leadership of the CPC and ACN deserved commendation for defecting to PDP. This is the most important aspect of today’s flag-off of our campaign to re-elect Alhaji Saidu Dakingari as governor.''
The acting Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, urged PDP loyalists to ensure that unity was sustained especially now that other party members had defected to PDP.
On his part, Dakingari said he would ensure even development, financial prudence and improvement of workers' welfare if re-elected.
Some party members present were the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of PDP, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, PDP governors from the North-West, as well as legislators in the National Assembly. (NAN)
