The National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) in Kano State is to set up a committee to recover outstanding debts from its loan defaulters across the state.
The NAPEP State Secretary, Hajiya Zainab Mohammed, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Thursday.
She said the measure was necessary to ensure that the various categories of loan disbursed to the beneficiaries were recovered in time.
“We are worried that most of the beneficiaries of the loans are not ready to pay back.
“We have to recover the loans to enable other people in the state to benefit from the agency’s empowerment programme.
According to her, the agency has requested its headquarters in Abuja for permission to form the recovery committee.
Mohammed said that when approved, the committee would be constituted immediately.
She advised all those who benefited from the loans to repay immediately so as to save themselves from possible embarrassment.
