The Ministry of Education has concluded plans to organise a West African regional workshop on curriculum and teacher capacity building, in October this year, to address the problem of poor functional skills in school graduates.
Inaugurating the steering and technical working committees for the successful hosting of the workshop, yesterday in Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Barr Nyesom Ezenwo Wike noted that it was common knowledge that countries in the West African sub-region share some common educational challenges due to their historical, geographical and political antecedents.
The steering committee has the executive Secretary, Nigerian educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Professor Godwil Obioma as chairman; Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed; Executive Secretary, National commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE); Director General of National Teachers Institute (NTI) and representative of the Minister of State as members.
