The Acting Inspector-General of Police? (IGP), Mr.? Mohammed Abubakar, yesterday gave a directive to all police commands across the country to establish Special Protection Units (SPU) to take charge of bank security. The directive is aimed at checkmating the rising spate of bank robberies.
Abubakar,? who held a meeting with managing directors of banks operating in the country at the Force Headquarters to address the security challenges of the financial institutions, stressed on the need for all banks to install functional Close Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) in their premises.
A six-point communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, which was attended by most of the bank chiefs , also urged the banks to acquire Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) for specie escort and patrols particularly in areas where banks clustered.
