The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 5,000 personnel for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention and 10, 000 others for the JAMB examination both slated for Saturday in Abuja.
A statement signed by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Okeh made this known in Abuja on Friday.
The statement quoted the Commandant-General of the Corps, Dr Ade Abolurin, as giving the directive, while assuring delegates and Nigerians of a peaceful, successful and safe convention.
“The Corps has deployed sniffer dogs, rescue teams, ambulances, personnel of the counter terrorism and insurgency unit, nuclear and biochemical operatives, peace mediators and crisis managers.
“Disaster and surveillance teams, as well as other professionals have also been deployed to police strategic areas, all major routes to the city, hotels, convention venue (Eagle Square) and other places that delegates might be camped,’’ he said.
Abolurin also ordered State Commands to ensure that the JAMB Examinations Centres were effectively monitored to guard against examination malpractice.
“In view of the prevailing security challenges, 10,000 of the personnel are deployed for the JAMB Examination for effective policing and monitoring of the centres and candidates against examination malpractice and other fraudulent acts that might arise, ‘’ he said.
He advised parents to caution their children and wards to desist from acts capable of jeopardising their future. (NAN)
