The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Sokoto State, has deployed personnel to all the border areas in the state to stop the smuggling of arms into the country.
The Commandant, Alhaji Aminu Kofor-Soro told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto yesterday, that the corps and other security agencies had put in? place several security strategies to check arms smuggling and other illegal activities at the borders.
He said that officers posted to the border areas had been briefed on how to work with the customs, immigration and the police to effectively secure the borders, in the interest of the country.
The commandant noted that there was enhanced inter-agency intelligence sharing, which had greatly facilitated the operations of security agencies in the state.
“Sokoto State is one of the most peaceful states in the federation and everything possible will be done to sustain it,” Kofar-Soro said.
He called for the active participation of other stakeholders in mobilising people to assist the security agencies with intelligence reports.
“We can’t be everywhere all the time but vital information about suspicious movements and characters in the area will go a long way in promoting the security situation,” he said.
NAN reports that there are more than five official entry points on the Nigeria-Niger border in Sokoto State.
