A Kaduna Upper Customary Court on Monday issued a 24-hour ultimatum to one Julius Olaitan of Ugwar Rimi quarters, Kaduna? to return his eight-year-old girl, Kemi Olaitan, to school.
Mrs Yemi Olaitan of the same address, told the court in a suit she filed on the plight of the child, that her husband had failed to fulfil his obligation to Kemi and her three siblings.
She said her husband always beat her whenever she requested for the children school fees, adding, “he also return home late whenever he goes to watch football at the viewing centre. ’’
Olaitan, however, denied the allegations, presenting receipts of part-payment of the child’s school fees to the court to prove his wife wrong.
He also alleged that his wife had never produced receipts of? payment of school fees whenever he sent her to pay the fees.
“My wife goes out every day and comes home around 11 p.m. claiming to have visited her mother.''
He told the court that they were legally married and have been staying together for the past four years.
The presiding officer, Malam Adamu Musa, after hearing both parties, said the court was? interested in the upkeep of the children and gave the accused a 24-hour ultimatum to take his daughter back to school.
Musa told Olaitan that it was his responsibility to ensure the well being of his family and urged the parties to settle the matter at the family level.
He also directed them to report back to the court on April 24 when it would resume sitting on the case.?
