Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State said the state government would donate 60 vehicles and 1,000 motorcycles to the Police in the state, to enhance their capacity in crime fighting. ?
Wamakko disclosed on Monday in Sokoto, when the new Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, paid him a courtesy call, that similar gestures would be extended to other security agencies in the state.
According to him, “the state government will continue to assist all the security agencies in the state to function effectively and diligently.
“The task of ensuring peace in the state and the country in general should not be left to the police and other security agencies alone.
“All the stakeholders, the government, the people, the rich and all the organisations must routinely assist the security agencies to function well.''
Wamakko said that the motorcycles would be distributed to junior police personnel free of charge, across the 26 police divisions and the state command.
Earlier, the commissioner commended the state government for its sustained assistance to the police and other security agencies.
Musa assured that the police in the state would continue to work round the clock to ensure that, the people of the state “sleep with their two eyes closed''.
” Let me also warn all the criminals to steer clear of the state as they have no hiding place here,” he added.
