The co-pilot of the ill-fated police surveillance helicopter which crashed in Jos on March 14, CSP Hannaniah Pwol-Ja, was buried yesterday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Pwol-Ja was among the four top police officers, including DIG Haruna John, who died while on an aerial surveillance in Jos following resumed hostilities in the city.
Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, who spoke at the funeral service held at the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) headquarters, Jos, described the late policeman as “a fine gentleman officer who died in the service of his nation, and particularly Plateau.
“His death and those of other officers were great setbacks to the peace process in the state. These innocent ones came to work for peace and shed their blood for it.’’
Jang, however, said that the state was consoled by the fact that the citizens would use Pwol-Ja’s death and those of other officers to engender and sustain the return of peace.
Also speaking, COCIN President, Rev. Soja Bewarang, called on the acting IGP, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, and the state government to immortalize the late police officer as his death was part of his contribution to the peace process in the state.
