The Federal Road Safety Commission said on Wednesday that it had begun mobilising its men and resources to ensure accident-free highway in Anambra during the Easter celebration.
The Sector Commander of the commission in the state, Mr Hyginus Omeje, announced the plan on Wednesday in an interview with newsmen in Anambra.
Omeje said that as had become traditional for the commission during important celebrations, it would mobilise everything at its disposal toward safety of motorists and other travelers to and from the state during the Easter.
“We have always identified the Niger Bridge Head as a critical area and for that reason, we will collapse all our unit commands in Nnewi, Nteje and Awka and move them to Onitsha to ensure there is no gridlock at the bridge head,” he said.
The commander said that he would also relocate his office to Onitsha, which he described as a flash point.
He said the measure was to ensure that motorists and other travelers had a smooth ride during the period.
“There will be route lining around Onitsha and the bridge head to control traffic to avoid gridlock while our ambulances and men will be positioned for any eventuality,” Omeje explained.
He, however, cautioned motorists to refrain from dangerous and reckless driving as any one involved in such driving would be prosecuted.?
