Transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday closed on a negative note with market indicators showing further depreciation because of the price losses recorded by some highly capitalised stocks.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nestle led the price losers’ chart with N23.11 to close at N439.26 per share.
NewGold followed, depreciating by N22 to close at N2, 551 per unit, while Total lost N7.73 to close at N147.04 per share.
Mobil dropped by N6.98 to close at N132.67, while Chevron dipped by N1.95 to close at N37.22 per share.
Consequently, the All-Share Index depreciated by 143.78 basis points or 0.69 per cent to close at 20,756.18, down from the 20,899.96 recorded on Wednesday.
Also, the market capitalisation, which opened at N6.63 trillion lost N46 billion or 0.69 per cent to close at N6.58 trillion.
On the other hand, Okomu Oil led the gainers’ chart, gaining N1.27 to close at N26.68 per cent.
CAP trailed with 88k to close at N18.52, while Cadbury grew by 58k to close at N13.30 per share.
Berger Paint and NAHCO appreciated by 40k each to close at N8.80 and N8.53 per share respectively.
The banking sub-sector remained the toast of investors, accounting for 134.59 million shares worth N1.01 billion traded in 2,081 deals.
GTBankwas the most active in the sub-sector as investors bought and sold 25.59 million shares worth N369.90 million exchanged in 547 deals.
Diamond Bank followed with an exchange of 17.91 million shares valued at N42.48 million traded in 34 deals.
NANreports that in all, investors traded 199.05 million shares worth N1.76 billion exchanged in 3,579 deals.
This was in contrast to the 253.92 million shares valued N2.42 billion traded in 4,181 deals posted on Wednesday.
