A bomb reportedly exploded on Friday at the popular Oye Market, Awgu in?Enugu State, forcing people to scamper for safety.
Sources said the blast suspected to have emanated from an unexploded ordnance? used? during the civil war, occurred at the rice mill part of the market in the afternoon.
Though no casualty was recorded, our checks revealed that the strange blast was initially mistaken for a Boko Haram strike, a development that generated panic in the market.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigations into the alleged bomb blast.
A release made available to newsmen yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Ebere? Amaraizu,? said men of the Anti Bomb Squad of the command have picked the remnant of the suspected unexploded ordinance for necessary analysis.
“It could be recalled that the sate command before now,has involved herself in partnership with the relevant media houses through press releases and other sensitisation avenues about the effect of the unexploded ordinance and advising them not to tamper with them any time they come accross them in their farms or any other likely area where the civil war affected greatly just as the state command has assured good citizens of the state of their maximum safety in the state,” the release said.
