Some NYSC members on election duty in the Kebbi??governorship re-run on Saturday insisted on the payment of their allowances before they could work.
The action of the corps members in?Dakin-Gari??in Suru Local Government Area delayed the accreditation of voters and commencement of election process.
The youth said that they had been taught by experience to collect their allowances and therefore held INEC officials in Suru, Jega and other areas ransom.
At??Dakin-Gari, the home town of Alhaji Saidu Dakin-Gari, the PDP candidate in the election , the youth’s action delayed the distribution of election materials leaving voters stranded and confused.
Dakin-Gari appeared calm and patient in spite of the development.
An NYSC member Mohammed Kabir , the presiding officer at Model Primary School, said?the youth did not want?to ?fight for their allowances .
“After the election, the INEC people are usually too busy to listen to people,’’ he told NAN
Another NYSC member Bello Umar, a Presiding Officer, said that there was the need to sought out monetary issues so that the corps members “would concentrate on their duties''.
The NYSC members later reported to their places of assignment after receiving N6,000 each as feeding allowance for the day.
Dakin-Gari was later accredited at 9.58 a.m.
Addressing journalists shortly after he was accredited, Dakin-Gari said he left everything in the hands of God.
“I am confident of victory, but I will accept whatever God decides ‘’ he said.
Meanwhile, the turnout of voters in Dakin Gari was massive at the?136 polling units (NAN)
