People in different parts of Kebbi carried on with their normal businesses in spite of the ban on movement as the people of the state elect a new governor.
Checks by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), showed that in different parts of the state, shops, market and transporters carried on with their normal activities while the polls were open on Saturday.
In??Jega in Kebbi Central Senatorial District, people moved about with transporters, especially commercial motorcyclists and taxi drivers, carrying on with their businesses.
Similarly, shop owners opened their businesses.
Also in Birnin Kebbi town, , in spite of the presence of policemen, Federal Road Safety Commission and other security agents in the streets, people moved about, while shops opened and enjoyed patronage.
Meanwhile, the polling units opened on time with accreditation of voters starting as early as 8a.m. in many areas.
In Jega, all polling units visited were manned by security personnel from the police, National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigeria Immigration Service.
However, in spite of the fact that 15 political parties fielded candidates for the election, only PDP, A.C.N and CPC agents were present at Kamran Lele and Kagda polling units in Jega town.
At Rafin Atiku in Nasarawa Ward in Birnin Kebbi, although there was a large turnout of voters, there were no party agents present by 9 a.m.
While poling agents said they had sufficient materials and that the accreditation of voters were going on smoothly, there was generally a low turnout of voters in the areas visited.
At the polling unit of the Acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Habibu Jega, ?in??Kalgo Local Government Area, the ?turnout of ?voters was ?still scanty at 9.15 a.m.
However, some voters still expressed the hope that the turnout would improve later in the day.
Some of the voters blamed the low turnout to the fact that many politicians in the state had defected to PDP before the election. (NAN)
