Zamfara’s ‘Tsunami’; Hideout Of Abductions

Abubakar Kabara uncovers a mysterious abduction ground in Zamfara State, which is associated with several kidnappings in recent times. According to him, the Zamfara ‘Tsumami’ is gradually assuming a frightening dimension with the number of women, men and children who have so far disappeared into the puzzling place

The true position of the terrifying suburb in Zamfara State, which has come to be known as ‘Tsunami’ is yet to be established for many reasons. People disappear from other states in the federation and within seconds they are found in the suburb located in North-Eastern part of the state capital, Gusau.

In other instances, taxi drivers may be ferrying some passengers to their preferred destinations and as soon as they part with their fares, they disappear into the strange location. Many stories have been bandied about the unholy location, which many have also associated with unseen gods bent on consuming innocent persons in the state. And they are worried.

It is a strange place that has continued to produce unending drama, mysteries and fear in the lives of the people, with many dreading going near the Tsunami for fear of being killed or turned into some strange objects because of the existence of what they called ‘jinns’ or supernatural forces or beings.

Not many had even known of the existence of the place until 2006 when the flood that swept through the state, caused its rivers banks to overflow and kill many people and destroy property worth millions of Naira in the process.

At the end of the ravages, the people nicknamed the areas around the river bank as Tsunami but did not know that they had unconsciously prepared a place for misery and apprehension in the process.

Although some strange things had been happening since the end of the flooding, the first major event that drew public attention to the place was last year when a five-year-old boy was fished out from the place and brought to the Zamfara Press Centre by men of the state Hisba Board.

The boy did not know how he suddenly found himself in the place and could neither mention who took him there. But he was lucky to have been found alive and given back in good health to his anxious parents who had been desperately looking for him.

The boy still clad in his school uniform, had ‘disappeared’ on his way to school in far awayBauchi State, only to be found shortly in Zamfara State.

Shortly after that incident, a young woman, who was later identified as Malama Fadimatu, was ‘abducted in her home in Pandogari Town and whisked away to the ‘Tsunami’ some seconds. This has been very alarming and intriguing to the people who know the distance between where she was seized and where she was eventually located.

As if the two mysterious incidents were not enough, the wife of the state commissioner for HajiyaMurjanatuIbrahim, was seized on her way from the Federal Medical Centre, Gasau, where she had gone to see a relative of hers.

But her husband, who believes his wife was abducted by ritualists, said she had boarded a taxi in Tudun Wada Area of the state with two men and one other woman and was heading towards the medical centre, when she disappeared shortly after handing over her fare to the driver.

“She instantly lost her memory after paying her fare only to find herself in an uncompleted building with over 50 other victims,” the commissioner said.

She was however assisted to escape around 3.am from the Tsunami by a woman who had sympathy on the commissioner’s wife. Till date, HajiyaMagaji is yet to understand what happened to her, just like the other victims, who have been to the mysterious riverside.

As many people continue to fall victims to the place of death and mystery, others have begun to dread it and warn against the rising dangers associated with the place that is still shrouded in mystery.

Renowned Islamic scholar and chairman of the Zamfara chapter of the Izala Islamic sect, Sheik Umar DallaDalla, described the activities at the Tsunami as puzzling, blaming the mysterious disappearance of men, women and children in the area to the work of those he called jinns-supernatural forces.

Dalla said it was strange for people to disappear in faraway places in Bauchi State only to be located within seconds in Zamfara State, a distance of over 200 kilometres.

‘What is happening in the Tsunami is very strange and it gives us the impression that there are some jinns operating there and using the place as their abode,” the Islamic scholar said.

However, the state police commissioner, AkilaUsmanGwary, has allayed fears that the place has been taken over by evil spirits.

The commissioner would rather ascribe the disappearance of persons into the place to the handiwork of kidnappers.

Gwary assured that efforts had been intensified by his men to tract the forces behind the abductions but did not say if any other thing would be done to establish if there are evil forces there or not.

As the problem persists and continues to drive fear into the people living around the area, it may become necessary for a spiritual assessment of the forces working in the river bank and their wings clipped before the activities of the jinns overwhelm the natives.
