Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari was yesterday declared?? winner of last Saturday’s governorship rerun election.
The Independent? National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Professor Lawal Sulaiman Bilbis, who announced the results yesterday, said that Governor Dakingari, won the election having scored the highest number of votes of 875, 492,beating his closest opponent, Alhaji Abubakar Gari Malam? of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)? who scored 17, 918 votes.
The third candidate on the list of contestants, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu (SAN) of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) scored 4,656 votes.
The elections, which witnessed poor voter turnout as a result of boycott of the opposition parties, was however very peaceful.
Shortly after the announcement, the chairman Conference of Nigerian? Political Parties (CNPP), Alhaji Boyi Jega, said that even though the opposition was satisfied with the results of the elections ‘we still remain active opposition in the state.’
LEADERSHIP recalls that the 2011 gubernatorial elections won by Gakingari was cancelled by the Supreme Court following the petition filed by the CPC candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Gari Malam.
The victorious Governor Dakingari has already started receiving congratulations from his friends and associates, led by President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP and the Senate President, David Mark.
?President Jonathan yesterday described as emphatic Dakingari’s victory in last Saturday rerun governorship election and urged him to justify the trust reposed in him by the electorate.
