Months after Kaduna State was recorded as polio free, the dreaded?? disease has again resurfaced in Birnin Gwari local government area in the state, prompting residents to call on parents to assist government efforts toward eradicating the menace.
The discovery of the disease was disclosed in separate town hall meetings organized by the World Health Organisation (WHO) held in Igabi, Kaduna North and South local government areas on ways to tackle the polio challenge.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the recorded case of polio has forced government and its stakeholders, such as? Journalists Against Polio (JAP) to re-strategize for a way out.
A traditional ruler in Badarawa, Kaduna metropolis, Alhaji Abdullahmid Usman called for stringent and more intensive measures both by government and other stakeholders to wage war against polio.
He expressed optimism that if polio is eradicated in the country, government would concentrate on other areas of national need.
A resident in Mararaban Jos, Mallam Abdulhamid Yunusa, called for more enlightenment campaigns on the dangers and implications of polio, both to the child and the parents.
He argued that many parents were yet to be fully convinced on the reason for the house-to-house polio immunization, which creates a setback to effort towards its eradication.
